Hello Citizen: Headline headghgh

Thursday afternoon; I returned from work to see the Times and Citizen on my door mat, I took a picture of it on my phone and uploaded to Twitter.

Sunday evening; that picture will have been seen by a recorded 57,000 people, reused on The Huffington Post, The Guardian and Photoshop Disasters, blogged and tweeted all over the world and available on a T-Shirt.

But how did this happen, how do you cause a 'Twitter sensation'?

The story behind the headline.

Whilst a lot is written about the power of the press, this really does emphasise the power of the web. It also highlights the diversity of distribution methods and channels available to one and all.

We’re in the information business

Why would we want structure?

According to Adrian Holovaty, newspapers should be in the information business, and think further than the written word. Structured information is what will fuel innovation in journalism. I couldn’t agree more.

Old media, new media and the UK election

The televised debates have brought all this sharply into focus. The gloating, self-satisfaction of the TV crowd is so palpable, and somehow, so pathetic.

I, too, mourn good local newspapers. But this lot just aren't worth saving - George Monbiot Comment is free | The Guardian

I asked the editor of the Cambrian News to tell me whether her reporter had read the assessment before filing his story, or whether anyone at the paper had checked it. Her response was priceless. "Any information that we obtain, we keep exclusively for the Cambrian News and do not pass it on to rival newspapers." I pointed out that I wasn't trying to steal her non-story, but asking her to defend her decision to publish it. She has not replied.

Ouch!
